Tips for Cruise Ship Travelers: Booking Tours

Coming to Argentina by cruise ship is a great way to visit. However, making tour reservations before arriving at the port can entail certain difficulties such as availability, being charged twice, time limitations, distance etc. For this reason, we’ve provided some tips to book tours in Argentina for Cruise Ship travelers in advance to help you make the most of your time in each destination.

1) Confirm tour details with the tour operator or travel agency

Whether you’re spending one, two or three days at the destination, unless you’re sure that it is a special service for cruise ships, you had better confirm the tour details. Price, availability and pick-up point can change depending on the destination, the tour operator or the conditions of the port.

Some services might be available to Cruise Ship travelers but the operators don’t want to commit to picking up passengers, since cruise ships often arrive at the docks late. You might have to book a private tour if this is the case. Other places, such as Buenos Aires, don´t have parking places that are appropriate for picking up passengers, so the operator will probably request that you join the tour at a pick-up point.

2) Different locations, different tour requirements

Each destination in Argentina has its own character, rules and ways of operating travel services, so don’t assume that what happens in Buenos Aires will be the same in other Argentine ports. Here are some examples:

Ushuaia is the easiest destination for cruises as the port is very close to downtown and easily accessible by many services at walking distance. There are plenty of activities, on a half day and full day basis, and the tour operators in Ushuaia are very flexible with cruises, so in general you can carry out almost all tours and activities without any problem.

If your cruise ship arrives after 11AM and leaves before 6PM, you won’t have enough time to do the Punta Tombo Puerto Madryn Day Tour to see the cute little penguins. Take into account that all Puerto Madryn operators require cruise passengers to book private tours, no matter how many days you plan to spend at the destination.

Some of the most famous tango houses have full days booked mainly for reservations from cruise ships. For some of the others, it’s possible to book on the side with a better price. Most of the tango houses won’t work with transfers to and from the port for the reasons we mentioned above, but you can arrange to be picked up at the closest hotel. Buenos Aires has more services available for cruises ships and, since the port is located near Puerto Madero, you won’t have trouble finding a nice pick-up point to await your transfer.

Regardless of your location and which tours and activities you wish to book, you should get in touch with our support team who’ll provide you with the best options for a great holiday in Argentina. You can even get a special price if you book tour services in various different destinations- happy holidays!
